Class 3A semifinals: Blanchard's defense dominates Jones
Lions advance to title game.
Blanchard brought a Doomsday Defense to Putnam City Stadium on Saturday.
The Lions pounded Jones, 35-7, to advance to a state championship football game for the first time since 1979, and most of the credit goes to their dominating defense.

Blanchard's front seven defenders hit, hurried and harassed Jones quarterback David Cornwell all afternoon, sacking the 6-5, 215-pound prospect that college scouts are drooling over seven times.
“We just played hard,” Blanchard defensive end Gage Wimer said. “We wanted to show them that the last game we had against them wasn't a fluke. We just got after it.”
Blanchard (12-1) had defeated Jones, 28-25, in a thriller in October, but Saturday's rematch in the Class 3A semifinals was one-sided from the start.
“Just a great job up front,” Blanchard coach Jeff Craig said of his defense, which held the Longhorns to only 77 yards of total offense.
“We mixed in a few other blitzes this week to try and get pressure on (Cornwell). You got to get to him. If you don't, he will smoke you.”
In the schools' regular-season clash in October, Jones' talented wide receiver, Randal Case, caught nine passes for 261 yards. On Saturday, Case had just four receptions for 37 yards.
“When a guy torches for almost 300 yards passing, it's a point of emphasis for the next game,” Craig said. “We paid attention to him.”
