The Outlaws got a leadoff single, then put another runner on after a Vian error on a sacrifice bunt.
But Anthony Green's sacrifice attempt allowed the Wolverines to get the runner at third, and Troutman forced Beau Meshell to ground into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.
Verdigris 10, Spiro 3
Verdigris coach Brian Keith trusted Mitch Hammack so much a year ago that he started him on the mound in the state championship game.
But even Friday morning, Keith wasn't sure he'd put Hammack back on the mound during the state tournament.
Keith decided to trust his instincts, though, and it paid off as Hammack threw a complete game as the Cardinals beat Spiro.
“He'd struggled recently but we stuck with him,” Keith said. “He got his breaking ball over early. We knew he'd have to have something off-speed working because they're such a good fastball-hitting team.”
The Cardinals trailed 3-1 before exploding for seven runs in the fifth with the help of a pair of Spiro errors.
Kale Keith delivered a two-run single in the inning. Keith was 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
Brian Keith wasn't sure if his ace, Blake Battenfield, would be able to pitch in the title game. Battenfield threw a complete game in the Cardinals' 3-0 win over Oklahoma Christian in Thursday's first round.
Colton Gamble was 3 for 3 with an RBI for Spiro.
