After James Bowker's run tied the game, Byng walked Kyle Williams to load the bases and bring up Carter Bowker, who was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts before his walk-off heroics.
“It was awesome,” James Bowker said of his little brother's heroics. “I knew he had it in him. We needed a run, and he came through for us.”
Berryhill 7, Tuttle 4
Berryhill junior Nick White recorded 13 strikeouts in his complete-game effort, and the Chiefs advanced to their second consecutive Class 4A state championship game with Friday's 7-4 semifinal win over Tuttle.
White was also 2 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored Friday.
Berryhill won its only baseball state title in 2007, and is playing in its fourth straight Class 4A state baseball tournament. The Chiefs have now reached the championship game in three of those years.
Berryhill scored two runs in the top of the first inning Friday, but Tuttle responded by recording three in the bottom of the first, when Berryhill committed two errors.
The Chiefs, though, scored four runs in the second inning to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
