EDMOND — With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Plainview junior Carter Bowker stood in the on-deck circle, watched Byng call for an intentional walk and sent up a prayer.

“That was just a bad idea on their part,” Bowker said with a grin. “They shouldn't have done that.”

Bowker's walk-off single to right field capped a four-run seventh and secured the Indians' 4-3 Class 4A semifinal win Friday.

Plainview meets Berryhill in Saturday's 3:30 p.m. state championship game at Shawnee.

Byng opened the scoring Friday with Andre Davis' first inning sacrifice fly. Davis added an RBI double in the third, and the Pirates took a 3-0 lead with Joe Nemecek's fourth inning RBI single.

All the while, Plainview couldn't manage much offense at all and entered the last half inning down 3-0.

The Indians drew three straight walks, then Devin Hartman's two-run single pulled Plainview within one. During the next at-bat, senior James Bowker stole third base and scored a few pitches later on a passed ball.

“He was playing back, and the pitcher wasn't giving me any second thought,” James Bowker said of his stolen base. “I'm a senior. I don't want this to me my last game, so I've gotta pull through with something big.”
