Class 4A baseball: Tuttle's Zac Brunson steals the show — and home, too

Brunson stealing home capped a four-run fourth inning rally to lead Tuttle to a 4-2 win over Weatherford in first round

EDMOND — Tuttle right fielder Zac Brunson timed the play perfectly, waiting for Weatherford catcher Matt Hoffman to lob the ball back to the mound before he bolted home.

Brunson stealing home capped a four-run fourth inning rally to lead the Tigers to a 4-2 win over Weatherford on Thursday afternoon at the Class 4A state tournament at Edmond Memorial High School.

Brunson, who bats seventh, also supplied the key hit, a two-run single that broke a 1-1 tie.

“Zac's just a good old country kid who comes up big all the time,” said Tuttle coach Travis Owen. “He hit two homers in a game once this year. He's a gamer. He came up big for us.”

Catcher Lane Paul led off the fourth with a double and advanced to third on Cole Sharp's bunt single. Pitcher Connor Litterell tied the game with an RBI single. Brunson's two-run single made it 3-1 and then he stole home for a 4-1 lead.

“Coach told me if they weren't looking at me just take home, so I did,” Brunson said. “(On the two-run single) I just sat back and he threw me a first pitch fastball that I took up the middle.”
