Top-ranked Anadarko and No. 6 Byng are both waiting to see what their first-round matchup will be on Thursday at Southern Nazarene University.

Mount St. Mary and Heritage Hall play at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Yukon to determine the final spot in the tournament, forcing the OSSAA to release two potential brackets.

If Heritage Hall wins, Anadarko opens against the Chargers at 7 p.m. and Byng plays Vinita. If Mount St. Mary wins, it opens against Byng at 8:30 p.m. and Anadarko faces Vinita.

“A lot of coaches have the tendency — if we have too much time — to over-practice or over-gameplan,” Anadarko coach Jeff Zinn said. “At least we won't be doing that; we'll have a couple of days to look at what they're going to do and get ready to play.”

Anadarko, though, has faced Vinita three times in the first round the past four years. The Warriors, however, finally came out on top, winning the matchup last season in the semifinals.

“I talked to people from Anadarko and they always cringe when I say ‘Vinita' because I think they had lost to them several times in the first round,” Zinn said.

“I think last year changed some of that stuff.”

ROOF SPARKING YOUNG WEATHERFORD

Six-foot-1 junior Chandler Roof has provided a versatile threat this season in guiding Weatherford back to the state tournament after a year hiatus.

“She makes it tough on other defenses because we can move her around,” Weatherford coach Dusty Torrey said. “They've got to come out and guard her outside, plus we move her inside, and she's just athletic. That puts a little more pressure on defenses.”
