Clinton wasn’t the only team that turned in an impressive round on Wednesday.

Defending champion Hilldale (347), Poteau (350), Cache (355), and Ft. Gibson (355) are all within striking distance of catching Clinton (341) in the Class 4A girls golf state tournament at Lake Hefner.

“In this sport you have to focus on yourself because you have no control over the other team,” said Clinton coach Mike Lee. “You just come out, relax, and play. There’s nothing you can do. You can’t blitz them, you can’t press them. You just go play.”

FAMILIAR CONTENDERS

The leaderboard after 18 holes doesn’t look much different than it did a year ago.

Wednesday’s top four — Neidy, Rigsby, Ward, and Hilldale’s Katie Kirkhart — all finished in the top-10 at last year’s tournament.

Elk City’s Kelsi Wilson, who was fourth last year, is also near the top of the leaderboard once again in a tie for sixth.
