Class 5A-6A state track meet: Three sets of sisters help Edmond Memorial get off to hot start

Then Clara and Tess O’Connor.

And after the last event of the day, it was Mia and Morganne Mukes.

Three sets of sisters, all on one track team, sharing the medals stand together.

And with all of their contributions, Edmond Memorial got off to a hot start at the Class 6A state track meet Friday at Yukon’s Miller Stadium.

The Memorial girls scored 60 points for a 30-point lead on second-place Jenks heading into the final day of the meet.

Team success is important, but competing alongside their sisters adds a special touch, especially at the state’s biggest track meet.

Merritt Ogle cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump, with Avery coming in fourth at 5-2.

The O’Connor sisters were part of the 3,200-meter relay, with Tess handing off to Clara for the final leg. Arin Glennie and Ricki Scheef ran the first half of the race.

“It’s really special,” Clara O’Connor, a sophomore, said. “It’s so neat to have somebody in my family out there with me, being on this wonderful team makes it even better.
