After finishing second individually, the Highlander who is bound for Air Force was pleased with how his season turned out.

“I wanted to work hard all year and win,” he said. “It’s working its way back together.”

Meisel shot a 2-over par 74 in the final round, one shot shy of Johnson. Much like the team title, it came down to the final hole.

Meisel bogeyed on No. 18, just like Johnson, after making birdie putts on Nos. 16 and 17.

“I wanted to come out here at least shoot even, maybe a couple under, and shots weren’t going my way,” Meisel said. “I just left a whole lot out there. I didn’t play my best today.”

DEER CREEK NAMED ACADEMIC CHAMPION

Deer Creek was named the Class 5A academic champion by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association following the tournament.

The Antlers had a GPA of 3.80.

They finished fifth in the tournament with a team score of 945. Senior Jake Badrell led the team with a total score of 230 (75-79-76).
