Class 5A boys golf notes: Tulsa Kelley's Will Murphy wins individual title

Sparked by an eagle from junior Will Murphy, Tulsa Kelley defeated Shawnee on the first playoff hole to win the 5A team championship.

Murphy knocked in a downhill chip shot that broke about five feet for an eagle on the par-5 first hole.

“I wish I could tell you I knew it was going in when I hit it,” Murphy said with a laugh. “I think that put a lot of pressure on them.

“We just feel a lot of gratitude. Everything you think it would feel like to win state, it does.”

Tulsa Kelley and Shawnee tied for the top spot with three-round totals of 963.

One more playoff

It seemed like everything had to be settled by a playoff Tuesday at Chickasaw Pointe.

Tulsa Memorial's Cameron Holder won a playoff to earn the final All-State berth for the East, joining Durant's Seth Wheeler.

The West All-State bids went to Oaks and Gray. The All-State tournament will be played the last week of July in the Tulsa area.
