Class 5A boys roundup: Juwan Parker sparks Tulsa Washington; Tulsa Memorial beats Claremore

TULSA — Tulsa Washington has plenty of experience on the big stage of the state tournament.

Juwan Parker, however, does not.

But it was Parker, the Hornets’ freshman standout, who helped lift Washington to a 51-43 win over Tulsa East Central in the Class 6A Boys State Tournament semifinals at Mabee Center on Friday night.

Washington (19-9) will play Tulsa Memorial at 1 p.m. today for the championship.

East Central’s season ends at 17-11.

Parker had 11 points and came up with several critical rebounds as Washington came from behind.

"If you just keep pushing and working hard, good things will happen,” Parker said. "All through the playoffs, the defense has been the key for us and this wasn’t any different.”

Memorial beat Washington three times during the regular season.

"It’s a new game,” Parker said. "We’re on a hot streak now. It’s all about revenge.

"Now, we can break through against them. We’ve fully reached our peak now. It’s time for us to bust out.”

The Hornets will be playing for their record 14th boys basketball title. Millwood also has 13 boys championships. The Falcons also have a chance to play for No. 14 on Saturday in the Class 3A title game at State Fair Arena.

Tulsa Washington’s last title came in 2002.
