Class 5A girls golf notes: McGuinness looking for third straight title

His prediction is on track so far, with McGuinness and Duncan tied for the team lead at 328. Deer Creek is within striking distance at 336, and any of the three teams could post multiple low scores Thursday to win the title.

McGuinness is looking for its third straight team title, having won 5A last year and 4A the season before.

Irish sophomore Alexis Sadeghy is tied with Guthrie senior McCandren Lewis for the individual lead as well, each shooting 74 Wednesday.

PUTTER HELPS GUTHRIE'S LEWIS INTO TIE FOR LEAD

Lewis has one victory this season, winning the Suburban Conference tournament. Now, she's prepared to pick up win No. 2 after shooting a 74 in the first round, thanks to hitting some crucial putts.

“I knew it would be windy and that would make it tough,” she said. “I tried to be aggressive with my putter. I wasn't afraid to miss.”
