As J.P. Seifried's fly ball skied toward Carl Albert center fielder Steve Thompson, Titans catcher Taylor Hawkins sprinted to the mound.

He wanted to be right in the middle of the dogpile.

Thompson settled under the ball, making the catch and setting off the celebration as Carl Albert beat Claremore 6-2 to win the Class 5A state title at Oral Roberts' J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The title is the third for Carl Albert. All have come in the last six years.

“We just keep building that tradition,” Titans pitcher Chevin Noone said.

As a freshman, Hawkins was a starter on the 2009 team that won the title. His brother, Jordan Hawkins, was a senior on that team.

After a 4-0 win Thursday to open the Class 5A state tournament, Carl Albert starter Cameron Warren promised the Titans would score more runs.
