Altus senior Keilan Torres won his third state wrestling championship Saturday night at State Fair Arena, but he still thinks about the one that got away.

As a freshman, Torres was 40-0 on the season heading into the state championship match but lost in overtime.

“I watch the video a lot still,” Torres said of the match. “It was a tough loss for me. It still hurts me.”

Torres has pretty much dominated everyone since. The Oklahoma State commitment finishes his high school career for Altus at 140-3, having gone unbeaten the past two seasons.

He won the 2013 5A state championship in easy fashion, winning by a technical fall and a pin in his first two bouts and then scoring another technical fall (17-2) in the 160-pound championship match over Chad Draper of Deer Creek.

Torres was named the state tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler for Class 5A.

Torres began the season with a minor injury and didn't wrestle until the Geary Tournament in January.

“He was released and two days later went to the Geary Tournament and won it,” Altus wrestling coach Nick Williams said. “He's been rocking and rolling ever since.”
