KINGFISHER SWIMMER ENDS CAREER ON HIGH NOTE
Mason York is the most accomplished swimmer in Kingfisher history. The senior defended his state championships Saturday in the 200 individual medley and 100 breast stroke, giving him five titles in his prep career.
As a sophomore, York also won the state championship in the 100 breast stroke.
“Hopefully, the publicity Mason has brought to the town will cause more boys to participate in swimming,” said Trent York, Mason's father and Kingfisher's coach.
Kingfisher only had four boys on the swim team this season.
A member of the Chesapeake Swim Club, Mason York has scholarship offers from Xavier and Florida Southern.
DOUBLING UP
Junior Jessi Hildebrand of Newcastle won state titles in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, giving her five state championships in her career.
Piedmont junior Kasey Rein won gold in the 500 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. She also won two state titles as a sophomore.
Preston Selby of Harding Charter School captured the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, setting a state 5A record in the latter with a time of 51.44.
Junior Riley Bunyard of Harrah won state championships in the 200 and 500 freestyle after finishing second in both events last year.
STILLWATER RELAYS DEFEND CROWNS
Stillwater's girls repeated as state champs in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Sydney Goad, Brooke Njaa, Alex Thomas and Lauren Gattis comprised the winning 200 medley relay.
Goad, Thomas, Kelsey Haseley and Kayla Dunn were members of the champion 400 freestyle relay.
