U.S. Grant TEAM PROFILES PUTNAM CITY NORTH PANTHERS Last year's record: 6-5 Returning starters: 8 offensive, 7 defensive Top players: QB Sam Bradford, 6-4, 190, Jr.; TB Deji Karim, 5-10, 185, Sr.; WR/DB Matt Winzeler, 5-8, 160, Sr.; WR/DB Kenny Brown, 6-3, 180, Jr.; OL Ben Brett, 6-1, 245, Sr. The facts: Karim and Bradford return. The two combined for 31 scores a season ago and more than 3,100 yards on offense. Brown and Winzeler combined for 61 catches and more than 600 yards. Tulsa, OSU , Kansas and Missouri are some of the schools interested in the shifty and speedy Karim. Head coach: Bob Wilson, 13th season Season opener: Thursday vs. Edmond North WESTMOORE JAGUARS Last year's record: 10-2 Returning starters: 3 offensive, 3 defensive Top players: QB Brad Boydstun, 5-11, 175, Sr.; OL/DL Dustin Finn, 6-3, 255, Sr.; OL/DL Cory Summers, 6-3, 283, Sr.; PK John Basgall, 5-10, 155, Jr. The facts: Boydstun's back at quarterback for a team that's made the semifinals and the quarterfinals the past two seasons. Finn and Summers are the best pair of defensive tackles in the state. After a running back by committee strategy last year, watch for Tim Mosely to get a shot this season as the feature back. Head coach: Mike Whaley, 5th season Season opener: Friday vs. Moore PUTNAM CITY PIRATES Last year's record: 10-3 Returning starters: 2 offensive, 6 defensive Top players: RB Da'marean Pullen, 5-9, 170, Sr.; TE/DE Jacob Reid, 6-3, 215, Sr.; OL Booker Douglass, 5-10, 390, Sr.; FB/LB Justin Webb, 5-10, 220; OL/DL Kenton Dunlap, 6-0, 225, Sr. The facts: Just two starters are back on the offense, but one is Pullen, who ran for more than 1,700 yards and scored 23 touchdowns. Putnam City made the quarterfinals two years ago and the semifinals last year. Zac Farris steps in at quarterback. Head coach: Mark Little, 2nd season Season opener: Friday vs. Putnam City West MIDWEST CITY BOMBERS Last year's record: 5-5 Returning starters: 2 offensive, 2 defensive Top players: QB/DB Laron Moore, 5-11, 175, Jr.; TE/DE Bradley Dedeaux, 6-4, 250, Jr.; Sterling Tribble, 6-2, 200, Sr.; DB Jarrod Williams, 5-6, 180, Jr.; Leondric Brown, 5-10, 185, Sr. The facts: Laron Moore is fast enough to play anywhere on the field; the junior will start the season at quarterback. He ran for 1,301 yards and accounted for 16 touchdowns. Brown ran for 1,048 yards last year, averaging more than eight per carry. Head coach: Ricky Oliver, 4th season Season opener: Friday vs. Del City MUSTANG BRONCOS Last year's record: 5-5 Returning starters: 4 offensive, 5 defensive Top players: LB Micha McGaham, 5-11, 190, Sr.; OL Cory Scrivner, 6-6, 407, Sr.; OL Luke Ricks, 6-1, 280, Sr; WR Matt Ellison, 5-9, 165, Sr.; QB Brian Jones, 6-1, 178, Sr. The facts: The strength of the team is on the offensive line, which will be anchored by three-year starters Scrivner and Ricks. Jones takes over at quarterback for Robby Treadwell, who threw for more yards than anyone in Class 6A football. Ellison will be the main target for Jones. Head coach: Todd Dilbeck, 3rd season Season opener: Friday at Yukon NORMAN NORTH TIMBERWOLVES Last year's record: 4-7 Returning starters: 4 offensive, 5 defensive Top players: DB Kendal Hendricks, 5-10, 175, Sr.; DB Tyler Heidel, 5-8, 170, Sr.; RB/DB Blake Greene, 5-10, 190, Sr.; WR/DB James Warren, 5-11, 170, Sr.; TE Matt Edge, 5-11, 185, Jr. The facts: Drew Hart, Greene and Chris Lowe as well as Sterling Marino will carry the ball. Edge might be the best tight end you've never heard of. He caught 27 passes for 405 yards last year. Head coach: Rick Sodowsky, 3rd season Season opener: Thursday vs. Norman LAWTON WOLVERINES Last year's record: 2-8 Returning starters: 3 offensive, 5 defensive Top players: WR/DB James Campbell, 6-0, 170, Sr.; WR/DB Kellen Hill, 5-6, 165, Jr.; WR/FS Lance Crumbley, 6-0, 185, Sr; RB/DB Dezmond Nix, 5-9, 180, Sr; OL Theo Rogers, 6-1, 340, Sr. The facts: Nix will see more time at running back this season. Hill will be the go-to receiver. Tanner Wade steps in at quarterback. He's a 5-11, 155-pound junior.
