This time, it was in the state tournament, and it was Glencoe's turn to walk away victorious.

Kagen Castlebury's hot start plus Ty Lazenby's strong finish equaled victory for the Panthers on Thursday, knocking off defending champion Cheyenne-Reydon 73-56 in the first round of the Class A state basketball tournament at Southern Nazarene University.

“We battle with them every time we see them,” Glencoe coach John Lazenby said. “We're real familiar with each other. When you have good programs, there's that rivalry, and we go hard against each other.”

Castlebury, a senior guard made three 3-pointers in the first quarter and had 16 of his 20 points by halftime as Glencoe took a 40-34 advantage into the locker room. Lazenby, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, had 16 second-half points on his way to 25 for the game.

“Kagen set the tone,” John Lazenby said. “You hate to think about ‘what if,' but if Kagen doesn't come out stroking it, the game could have been a lot different. But we'll take it.”
