Brad Thrash’s day got better Thursday night.

After Thrash’s Cheyenne/Reydon boys got beat by Glencoe earlier in the day, he had to quickly turn his attention to the Cheyenne girls game against Pond Creek-Hunter on Thursday night.

The second result was much more to Thrash’s liking as his Lady Bears beat Pond Creek-Hunter 51-41 at Oklahoma City University’s Abe Lemons Arena.

Cheyenne/Reydon (24-6) will play Turner at 9 p.m. Friday at State Fair Arena in the semifinals. Pond Creek-Hunter’s season ends 25-5.

Morgan Latta keyed a 13-0 run that began early in the second quarter that put Cheyenne up by 15. Latta scored seven points during the stretch.

“The adrenaline got pumping there,” Latta said. “I was just kind of feeling it and my teammates did a great job getting me the ball.”

Latta finished with 18 to lead Cheyenne. Kate Sander added 10.

While most games in the tournament earlier in the day featured an abundance of outside shooting—the first three games had 36 combined 3-pointers—Cheyenne was successful by taking the ball to the basket.

The teams combined for five 3-pointers.

It was Cheyenne’s first state tournament win since 2000.

Thrash was attempting to become the second coach in state history to win both a boys and girls state title in one season.

Carson Ferguson and Rylie Halcomb led Pond Creek-Hunter with 10 points each.
