Cleveland County commissioners hire Norman police veteran as emergency director

George Mauldin, a 29-year veteran of the Norman Police Department, has been named Cleveland County's emergency management director. Mauldin will succeed Dan Cary, who retired.

Cleveland County commissioners approved Mauldin's appointment on Monday. Mauldin has served on the police department's bomb squad for the past 20 years and is a certified hazardous materials technician.

Mauldin's final day at the police department is Feb. 25. He will assume his new duties on Friday, commissioners said.
