NORMAN — Cleveland County commissioners Monday approved a contract for 52 digital video cameras for the county courthouse.
The deal with Travis Voice and Data of Oklahoma City is for $70,085. Cameras will be installed throughout the building and outside of it for general security. Commissioners learned Travis had the lowest bid. A county staff member who reviewed the bids said the cameras are considered the most versatile and compatible with other equipment.Split decision
In other business, commissioners voted in a split decision to allow the state Office of Juvenile Affairs to send state appropriations directly to Communityworks LLC, the company that operates the Alan J. Couch Juvenile Detention Center in Norman.
Communityworks has operated the county center at 1650 W Tecumseh Road since Nov. 26, 2006.
Commissioners George Skinner and Rod Cleveland voted to grant authority to the Norman-based company to submit claims directly to the Office of Juvenile Affairs for the remainder of this fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2009.
Commissioner Rusty Sullivan voted against it.
"I just like the money coming to us, to the county, first,” he said after the meeting.
Longer parking
Commissioners also authorized a written request to the city of Norman to expand parking limits around the county courthouse and administration buildings from one hour to two hours.
