Cleveland County Health Department offers flu shots

The Cleveland County Health Department will begin offering influenza vaccinations Friday at the Norman and Moore offices.

High-dose flu vaccines, a vaccine with four times the antigen of regular flu vaccine, will be available for people 65 or older. Immune systems are less responsive as people age, and the high-dose vaccine provides more protection, although it comes with a slightly higher chance for typical side effects such as sore arm, headache and low fever, said Kinney.

Besides getting a flu vaccination, people 65 and older and those with chronic health conditions should ask their doctors whether they should be vaccinated against pneumococcal pneumonia, if they have not already received a dose, Kinney said.

For more information about the flu vaccines, call the Norman office at 321-4048 or the Moore office at 794-1591.
