— Family, friends and fellow law enforcement officers paid tribute Friday to Cleveland County's fallen officers, including those who served with the Norman Police Department and those who died while working for the sheriff's department.

An honor guard, a 21-gun salute and brief messages from Police Chief Keith Humphrey and Adrian Andrews, special agent in charge of the Oklahoma City field office of the U.S. Secret Service, were part of the ceremony. Family members participated by placing roses at the foot of a permanent police memorial outside the Norman police station.

Honored at the service were the following:

• Norman police officer Jerry Bratcher, who was killed in a traffic accident Nov. 24, 1963, returning from a police investigation.

• Norman patrolman Melvin Miner, who was killed July 30, 1972, in a gunbattle with a homicide suspect.

• Norman Sgt. Dale DeBerry, who died Dec. 1, 1998, of a heart attack during a training routine.

• Cleveland County sheriff's deputy William Abbott, who was shot Feb. 14, 1912, while he was serving a warrant. He died Feb. 17, 1912.

• Cleveland County sheriff's deputy Grover Fulkerson, who was shot and killed Aug. 24, 1917, after making a traffic stop of someone suspected of bootlegging.

• Former Cleveland County sheriff's office dispatcher Rona Chafey, who was killed in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Chafey died while working for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
