NORMAN — People with outstanding district court fines in Cleveland County can avoid jail time by setting up a payment plan through “Operation Clean Slate,” a program spearheaded by Sheriff Joe Lester, Court Clerk Rhonda Hall and Special Judge Steve Stice.
Special court dockets have been scheduled so people with outstanding warrants for failure to pay fines can appear, get the warrant recalled and arrange a payment plan.
The first docket is from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday. Other dockets are set for 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 8; 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 16; and 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 29.
All dockets will be in Stice's courtroom on the fourth floor of the Cleveland County Office Building, 201 S Jones Ave.
No fines or court costs will be waived, but officials will work with people in setting up a payment plan that works for them, Stice said.
Lester said his office hopes to clear from the books as many as 5,000 outstanding warrants.
