NORMAN — Prosecutors in Cleveland County on Thursday declined to file charges against a teenager who police said performed an abortion on herself.
Oklahoma City police said that in 2012, a 16-year-old intentionally took medication to induce an abortion. Because the woman was a juvenile at the time, police did not release her name.
Oklahoma law prohibits anyone but a licensed physician from terminating a pregnancy.
Police presented the case to the Cleveland County District Attorney’s office. Prosecutors determined there was not sufficient evidence to file charges at this time, office spokeswoman Rhonda Bailey said.
The woman was not arrested, police said. It was not immediately clear how police learned of the case.
