The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, or two hours after the Cleveland County Election Board meets to review the provisional ballots.
Anette Pretty, assistant executive secretary of the Cleveland County Election Board, said results should be known before 5 p.m.
A recount request would be filed with the state Election Board.
The cost of a recount is $600 for the first 3,000 ballots and $600 for each additional 6,000 ballots as well as an additional $300 to pay for other costs.
A Cleveland County judge would preside over the recount.
The person filing the recount may stop the proceedings if he or she is ahead after any precinct.
The other candidate then has the option to pay a similar amount in order to have the recount continue until all precincts are counted.
