NORMAN — The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department, which fingerprints children as a service to parents, has issued a warning that someone is calling county residents claiming to be collecting donations for the fingerprint program.
The calls are a scam, Sheriff Joe Lester said.
Sheriff's deputies fingerprint children for free and never solicit money for the service, he said.
The caller, who claims to be associated with the sheriff's office, requests bank account information and promises to fingerprint children for a charge, the sheriff said.
Residents who received such phone calls began reporting them to the sheriff's office last week, Lester said.
Anyone getting a call of this type should call the sheriff's office at 701-8888 to report it, Lester said.
