Cleveland County's emergency management director will retire

Cary's letter of resignation was accepted Monday at the county commissioners' weekly meeting. No replacement has been named.

Commissioners lauded Cary for his work in disaster preparedness and managing the county's response in times of disaster.

Cary said he and his wife plan to spend more time with their children and grandchildren, “and there's a boat at Lake Texoma calling my name.”

Cary began a law enforcement career as a patrolman with the Norman Police Department. He worked his way through the ranks, serving as police chief for two years before his retirement from that department in 1988.

Following his stint with the Norman Police Department, he worked about five years with the state Chiefs of Police Association, resigning as executive director in 1993 to become emergency management director in Cleveland County.
