With most of its secondary intact from last year’s Class 4A title run, Clinton knows it has to beef up the defensive front seven this season.
Coach Mike Lee lives by the motto that you win football games by running the ball and stopping the run, so he’ll ask a lot of his defensive front.
“Our secondary looks really good,” linebacker Donivien Brown said. “We’ve got some work to do in the front seven, but we’re getting there. It’s a work in progress.
“We can’t be satisfied. People want to come after us, so we’ve got to work harder, but that makes it more fun.”
The group has some experienced returners like Brown and defensive end Ryan Richert, among others.
“We’re young at spots and have spaces to fill, but we did it last year and I think we can do it again,” Richert said.
