Oct 27"Lakers take on Griffin, Clippers in opener" the headline read.

The stress fracture could sideline the Oklahoma star for six weeks, the team announced, promising further information Tuesday.

On that timeline Griffin would certainly be sidelined for the Clippers' only visit to his hometown. The Clippers play the Oklahoma City Thunder Nov. 15 at the Ford Center.

Griffin, who averaged 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game during the preseason, won't be in the Clippers' lineup when they face the Lakers in their opener Tuesday night, and he could be out much longer. The Clippers play 20 games in their first six weeks of the regular season.

Griffin apparently broke his kneecap during the Clippers' final exhibition game against New Orleans last Friday, perhaps after a dunk that left the power forward wincing in pain. The team initially said Griffin only had a sore left knee, making him questionable for the opener, before revealing the break.

Griffin was the consensus college player of the year with 22.7 points and an NCAA-best 14.4 rebounds per game last season for the Sooners.

After the Clippers won the draft lottery and selected him, Griffin strained his right shoulder during a summer league game in July. The team brought him back cautiously, and Griffin said he was totally healthy in the preseason.

His latest injury is a sadly unsurprising setback for the star-crossed Clippers, who won just 19 games last year in an injury-plagued season. Los Angeles has just two winning in the last 30 years and just one playoff series victory since moving to town in 1984.

Los Angeles was mostly healthy going into this fall, with point guard Baron Davis and center Chris Kaman both ready to play after missing chunks of last season. The Clippers actually have solid frontcourt talent with Marcus Camby, Al Thornton and Rasual Butler alongside Griffin.

It is called the Oklahoma Paper Doll Syndrom. Look it up.

Chris, don't sell yourself short. Many of us would probably secretly yearn for a couple of your pieces on yeast infections if that would free us us from reading another JC column. Run that by Sherman and Tramel and see if that is possible. Double sigh.

Ha! Clippers Curse, not quite! I think its more of a OU curse! First, Aikman, QB for Dallas, whiny everytime he got hurt, and hes a football broadcaster now, then there was Charles Thompson, jail time ruined him, Josh Heupel, Jason White, both are NFL coaches after they got hurt because of bad coaching and teaching of how to stay safe on the playing field, Adrian Peterson, hurt...what can i say, at least he's still in the NFL, Sam Bradford, well, Heisman trophy winning wasn't enough for him, so he had to come back and ruin his chances for going bigtime in the NFL, and got hurt now...there goes his stock! Now, we hear of another rising star, FROM OU, nonetheless, that was supposed to be going places, even though he's with one of the worst teams in the NBA, and now he's gonna be out til December, maybe later, because of a pre-season injury...When will the coaches and teachers at OU start teaching injury protection and start producing good quality long lasting stars in their professional careers? Look out, Landry, K-State's defense will make you the next victim of bad protection, or rather your own offensive line will...LOL!

Josh....Good one...I guess I just meant the fact that Carson has played a full season yet....he's always getting hurt. I do think Sam will look good when he does his "Got Milk" commercial (see Josh Heupel)

I think this should be called the OU curse. Seems like there is a disturbing trend of OU athletes that sustain long recovery time injuries, once they enter the pro's. Does anyone else notice this.
Kevin, Oklahoma City - Oct 27, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Sorry Ryan but you have no idea what you are talking about. Blake will be fine and will have a successful NBA career. Just sit back and watch.
Kelly, Edmond - Oct 27, 2009 at 12:13 pm
It's preseason have you seen all other player non-highlight reel. An yes most of the team in the Big 12 average size was smaller than him. What happened when OU faced other big men. Oh that's right they lost or Blake go hurt. I watched every game, he was a great college player but he is a baby and NBA will prove it.

E in Edmond, Ryan is a moron. Yes, because we all know that the college basketball players he played against were all well under 6 feet tall and weighed barely 150lbs.
chris, estherville - Oct 27, 2009 at 11:55 am
knew he couldn't handle the NBA, Player shouldn't be judged so high when they are mainly playing against people smaller than them.
Ryan, oklahoma city - Oct 27, 2009 at 11:02 am

Ryan, you obviously haven't seen Blake's preseason highlight reel? He hurt his knee dunking not like he was getting abused. He was poised to be ROY...now I think Dejuan Blair will have a good chance at getting it (he'll have at least 20 games on Blake). I'm wishing Blake a good recovery and anybody that followed OU basketball while Blake was here, knows that he is a freak when it comes to recovery.

Brandon, edmond - Oct 27, 2009 at 11:40 am
I don't think Mbenga is small than him, youtube Blake's dunk over him and you'll maybe learn a thing or two...
Ed Lova, Oklahoma City - Oct 27, 2009 at 11:31 am
Exactly, Ryan, that's why he averaged 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game during the preseason. Are you a moron, or just illiterate?

Blake Griffin...meet Sam Bowie and Greg Oden.....next up Sam Bradford...meet Carson Palmer.
Philip, Oklahoma City - Oct 27, 2009 at 7:29 am

Don't you mean Bradford...meet Jason White? ☺ Palmer is still in the NFL and doing pretty good. OU qb's make good bbq, get jobs at ou, and sell shoes.

Okay, Darn!! At least we still have Adrian Peterson, knock on wood.
eudell, Virginia Beach - Oct 27, 2009 at 7:42 am
That sucks for Blake, but it is hillarious for all the people that were goaded into buying the ticket package that Clay and Co. forced them to buy in order to get this game. Blake was the one bright spot on those two absolutely pathetic teams. Now the people will either eat the tickets or go watch two POS teams.

More like a Sooner curse. Must be something in the water in Norman or the athletes there are just soft. More likely than not, the big names get hurt.

I guess this means we won't see him play at the Ford center Nov. 15 in the Clippers' only OKC appearance this season. Very disappointing! Get well soon, Blake!
