Gov. Brad Henry said the closing of the General Motors plant in Oklahoma City is very disappointing because he was under the impression things would be "worked out" at the plant.

GM announced this morning it will close assembly plants in Oklahoma City and four other locations in North America and will shut down four other facilities. The Oklahoma City plant is to be shut down early next year.

The move will eliminate a total of 30,000 jobs, including about 2,200 in Oklahoma City.

Henry said GM officials told him the decision to close the Oklahoma City plant is because the sport utility vehicles produced there are not selling. Henry says he found out only this morning that the plant will be closed.

The governor said GM told him there are no state or local incentives that would change their mind and keep the plant open.

Henry also says he believes the state's economy will be able to absorb the jobs and he'll do all he can to help workers find new jobs.
