Keonta Stephen Terrell Prince, 20, of Oklahoma City, apologized to the family of Oklahoma County sheriff's Maj. John Waldenville before a judge sentenced Prince to life in prison and suspended all but the first 25 years.
“I take full responsibility for what I did,” Prince said. “I'm sorry … for what I've done to you all.”
Oklahoma County District Judge Kenneth C. Watson ordered Prince to pay $232,000 in restitution and told him, “You will be on probation for the rest of your life.”
Waldenville was shot in the face and lost his right eye in the May 21, 2011, attack near the restaurant where he worked as a security guard.
Prince pleaded guilty in December to one count of shooting with intent to kill and one count of robbery with a firearm.
Prosecutors said it was Prince, a former Cattlemen's dishwasher, who planned the robbery because he was familiar with the restaurant and knew when nightly bank deposits were made.
“I wish I could say I forgive you, but I can't, not yet,” said Nancy Brewer, one of three of Waldenville's sisters in attendance. “The pain you have inflicted upon my family, my sisters, my nephew and nieces, their children and our extended family is something I pray no other family has to endure.”
