Cole Way leaving TU football program for baseball career Published: June 9, 2014

Tulsa punter/kicker Cole Way hasn't played baseball since his high school days, but the 6-foot-8 senior is leaving TU to pitch for the Kansas City Royals organization.

Having decided to forgo his senior season at TU, the 6-foot-8 Way was scheduled to travel on Monday night to Surprise, Ariz., where he'll sign a minor-league contract. Way was drafted in the 38th round in last week's MLB draft.

“An opportunity like this just doesn’t happen that often,” Way said. “I’m 22 years old, and they usually don’t look for 22-year-old pitchers who haven’t thrown in a while."
