Legendary Oklahoma State basketball coach Henry P. Iba would have 7-foot center Bob Kurland (1942-46) stand near the basket on defense and swat away shots around the rim. This led to Oklahoma coach and NCAA rules committee chair Bruce Drake implementing a rule that disallowed defensive goaltending.
