Collected wisdom: Former Oklahoma basketball star Aaron McGhee

It’s great seeing Kelvin Sampson back coaching in college. I’m really happy that he decided to come back to the college game. He’s a great teacher, and I feel like he’s a better college coach than trying to go coach in the pros. It’s a different type of game. He’s a teacher. He’s a mentor. I think that’s more his place.

It’s great being back. I just met a guy in the tunnel, I forget his name, but he was on the 1947 team. They should’ve put this together a long time ago. They’ve invited me every year, but this year I had the opportunity to do it. Now I want to make it to every one of them. This has just been a great experience. Coach Lon Kruger’s staff or whoever put this together did a great thing by bringing us all together. I hope they continue to do this for many years to come. For me to see my ex teammates like Ebi (Ere), this has just been great. This whole weekend I’ve had a big smile on my face. I look at the banners in here and it brings back all these memories. It’s awesome.

It’s changed a lot since I was here last. All of the buildings and football stadium and the dorms for the athletes, it’s just all different. That’s what winning does. We won and built up a tradition here and now they’re receiving the fruits of our labor.

I hope I’ve got about three of four more years to play. I want to do real estate after I finish. It’s always been something I’ve wanted to do. I also want to do a basketball academy, working kids out and really developing kids and players and stuff like that. I really have a passion for that. Maybe coaching, who knows?
