Wes Welker has had a busy offseason. The Patriots wide receiver tore his ACL in the regular-season finale on Jan. 3 and has spent the offseason trying to get ready for training camp. He stopped to reflect on his journey from Heritage Hall to the NFL.:

My proudest moment was definitely making it in the NFL, making the team. When you're a free agent, there's that day where you don't know what's going to happen.

Then, I get cut a week later. It was pretty low. It was like, “What's going to happen? This is bull.”

I don't think people really realize the work that's put in. There's never really an offseason. It's constantly doing something. You always hate feeling out of shape, so you're always doing something, you're always pushing yourself and training and doing something to try to improve your game at all times.

I like having a job. I enjoy making money. Obviously, that pushes me, but at the same time, I love the game and I love playing.

I always love being out there in top, mint condition and seeing the other guy dying during a two-minute drill and I'm still feeling fresh. It sucks to have to do everything possible to get to that point, but when you get to that point, it's a great feeling.

It's like, “I can work this guy all day.”

The best advice I got ... would be, “Go north and south.” You're not in middle school anymore where you can just outrun everybody to the sideline, so get north and south.

Another one is, “Don't catch the ball with your hands. Catch it with your eyes.” You think about it, and you do.
