Collectors Snap up Vintage Alligator Bags
Q: I have enclosed a photo of a clutch bag that was given to my mother approximately 60 years ago. The inside flap is stamped "Genuine Alligator — Made in Cuba." Measuring around 10 inches by 7 inches, it has a detachable shoulder strap and is still in excellent condition.
Could you please tell me its value? A: Vintage alligator handbags are collectible. Your pre-Castro/revolution clutch bag would probably be worth $200 to $300. Q: This mark is on the bottom of a porcelain young woman figurine. Standing 9 inches tall, she is wearing a blue gown and holding a basket of flowers. Anything you can tell me about the mark and value of my figurine will be appreciated. A: Located in Czechoslovakia, Amphora Porcelain Works made your figurine around 1918. Czechoslovakia existed from 1918 to 1993. It is now the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Similar figurines are seen in antiques shops in the range of $125 to $175. Q: We have a china cabinet that was made by Heywood-Wakefield.
