College baseball: Cowboys beat Baylor, avoid sweep in first Big 12 series

Oklahoma State avoided a sweep by beating Baylor 4-1 before 2,310 fans Sunday in Big 12 baseball in Waco, Texas.

Baylor (13-10 overall, 4-2 Big 12) led 1-0 after an inning, but the Cowboys (16-8, 1-2) answered with two runs in the sixth and ninth innings.

Gage Green, Tim Arakawa, Conor Costello, Zach Fish and Ryan Sluder each had two hits for OSU.

Relievers Tyler Buffett and Garrett Williams each pitched four innings; Buffett picked up the win after blanking the Bears on no hits, a walk and four strikeouts. Williams recorded his first save of the season after shutting out Baylor on no hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.

K-STATE BLANKS SOONERS

Kansas State pitcher Nate Griep threw a nine-inning complete game, leading the Wildcats to a 5-0 Big 12 baseball win Sunday over Oklahoma in front of 831 fans at Mitchell Park in Norman. Griep (2-0) allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out two.

The Wildcats (14-9, overall, 2-1 Big 12) had all they needed with a 4-run third inning. Ross Kivett and Tanner DeVinny had RBI hits in the inning against OU starting pitcher Jake Elliott.

Hunter Haley had two of the Sooners’ three hits.

Oklahoma (18-7, 2-1) will play 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Oral Roberts in Tulsa.
