College baseball: Cowboys split doubleheader with Texas-Pan American

Pinch-hitter Saulyer Saxon drove home the go-ahead run, and closer Brendan McCurry picked up the win Friday night as Oklahoma State trimmed Texas-Pan American 4-3 in the nightcap of a baseball doubleheader at Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.

Texas-Pan American won the first game 3-1.

OSU (13-6) salvaged the split with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Craig McConaughy walked with one out, and then stole second. Saxon pinch hit for Robie Rojas and delivered a single to left center off Broncs reliever Matthew Harrell.

McCurry moved to 2-0 after throwing the final two innings. He blanked Pan Am (10-10) on one hit, a walk and three strikeouts.

In the first game, Texas-Pan American starting pitcher Sam Street improved to 5-0. He threw 82/3 innings, allowing a run on eight hits and five walks. He struck out four.

The teams wrap up the series with a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday.

OU TRIMS BELMONT

Tyler Coolbaugh scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday, and Oklahoma edged Belmont (Tenn.) 4-3 at Mitchell Park in Norman.

Coolbaugh scored on Taylor Alspaugh’s single off reliever Greg Brody, who entered the game with one out in the 10th. The Sooners (13-5) trailed 1-0 and 3-1 before scoring single runs in the fourth and ninth innings.

Belmont (7-10) and the Sooners continue the series with a single game at 6 p.m. Saturday.
