Oklahoma erupted for 18 hits, including a home run from Hunter Haley, and whipped Seton Hall 15-6 in college baseball before 1,245 fans at Mitchell Park in Norman.

Mac James added four hits, and Hector Lorenzana added three to help the Sooners win the series 2-1. OU scored four times in the first inning and never looked back against the Pirates, who committed four errors. Haley and Taylor Alspaugh had three RBIs apiece for OU, which never played Seton Hall in baseball before this season.

The Sooners' starting pitcher, Jake Elliott, had a solid game. He gave up two earned runs on two hits, four walks and three strikeouts.

Freshman Cody Thomas made his college debut, striking out as a pinch-hitter. Thomas is the first football player to appear for OU in a baseball game since Brandon Jones in 2004. Thomas is one of several prospects who will compete at quarterback next fall.

Oklahoma continues its season-opening homestand at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-4).
