College baseball: Matt Oberste's record hit streak ends at 30 games, but Sooners beat Texas

Kansas leads the entire game, before holding off Oklahoma State's late rally.

Matt Oberste's school-record hit streak ended at 30 games Friday night. But the Sooner standout will take a 2-1 Big 12 baseball victory over Texas in trade and be happy about it.

Oberste was 0 for 3, but Oklahoma improved to 26-5 overall and 6-1 in the league after trimming the Longhorns at Disch-Falk Field. The Sooners scored a run in the first inning on Oberste's sacrifice fly and another in the sixth inning on Anthony Hemelyn's single.

Another big story for the game was OU's solid pitching. Starter Jonathan Gray threw 62/3 innings and allowed no earned runs on seven hits and two walks. Gray struck out eight. Closer Jacob Evans blanked Texas (16-12, 2-5) on no hits and no walks while bagging his fifth save of the season.

OU and Texas play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Austin.


Kansas led the entire game, but it still had to hold off Oklahoma State late in a 7-5 Big 12 baseball victory on Friday in Lawrence, Kan. The Jayhawks (17-11 overall, 4-3 Big 12) had a 7-0 lead after four innings before the Oklahoma State offense got on track. The Cowboys (21-7, 3-3) scored twice in the fifth inning and three more times in the eighth. But Kansas reliever Jordan Piche' blanked OSU on no hits and one walk over the final 12/3 innings.
