College baseball: OU beats Texas, takes first series in Austin since 1997

Oklahoma clinched its first baseball series against Texas since 1998 after beating the Longhorns 4-2 on Sunday before 6,246 fans is Disch-Falk Field in Austin. OU (27-6 overall, 7-2 Big 12) swept the Longhorns in the '98 series in Norman; the last time the Sooners won a series in Austin was 1997, the first year of the Big 12.

Five pitchers combined Sunday to limit Texas to four hits and four walks. The Sooners struck out 11, including a team-best five by starter Adam Choplick.

Texas (17-13, 3-6) nursed a 2-1 lead for four innings, before Oklahoma scored three times in the eighth. Max White had three hits, including a game-tying single in the eighth inning. White scored the go-ahead run a few batters later on Hector Lorenzana's double.

OU next plays 6:30 p.m. Friday against Baylor in Waco, Texas.

JAYHAWKS TRIM COWBOYS

Kansas scored all it needed in the first two innings Sunday and beat Oklahoma State 3-2 in a Big 12 game in Lawrence. A crowd of 1,153 at Hoglund Ballpark watched KU (18-12 overall, 5-4 Big 12) win the three-game series. OSU (22-8, 4-4) led 1-0 after half an inning, but the Jayhawks took the lead for good with a run in the first inning and two more in the second against Cowboys starter Tyler Nurdin.

OSU had seven hits, including two by Tanner Krietemeier. His double scored the Cowboys' only run.

The Cowboys next play 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against Oral Roberts at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
