No. 13 Oklahoma State rallied for its 16th come-from-behind victory Satrday, defeating Kansas 5-3 at Stillwater’s Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With the victory, OSU (28-11, 10-4 Big 12) clinched its fourth consecutive Big 12 Conference series win and kept its stop atop the league standings.
Senior Brendan McCurry became the Cowboys’ career saves leader with his 18th. It was his 10th save of the season, which also tied him for the most saves in a single season in school history.
A three-run eighth inning that included Tim Arakawa’s go-ahead home run pushed OSU to the win. Arakawa finished the day 2 for 4 with three RBI.
Vince Wheeland (4-0) pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief to get the victory, giving up two hits and one run and striking out two.
Kansas’ Stephen Villines (1-1) took the loss after giving up three hits and three runs in 1 2/3 innings.
OSU will look for the sweep when the two teams finish up the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
SOONERS FALL TO WVU
The OU baseball team surrendered nine runs in the last four innings to lose 9-5 to West Virginia at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman. The Sooners took an early 4-0 lead with help from back-to-back home runs by catcher Mac James and left fielder Hunter Haley.
