College baseball roundup: OSU wraps up series with rout of Oakland

Oklahoma ends tournament play with a 6-3 loss to Ohio State in Orlando, Fla.

Oklahoma State charged to an early lead and wrapped up its baseball series against Oakland with an 11-1 rout on Sunday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The Cowboys (8-1) took three of four games from the Rochester, Mich., school, which opened its season in Stillwater.

Three pitchers saw action for OSU, combining for 13 strikeouts. Starter Vince Wheeland (1-0) played in his first game of the season, holding Oakland to a run on four hits. He walked none and struck our four. Reliever Michael Freeman threw the next four innings and blanked the Golden Grizzlies on two hits, no walks and a game-high seven strikeouts.

With Oakland trailing 9-0 after two innings, eight pitchers saw action with Tyler Palm throwing a team-best two innings. Everyone else pitched 11/3 innings or less.

Zach Fish was 3 for 3 with three RBIs for Oklahoma State. Garrett Williams added a hit, four RBIs and a stolen base.
