Oral Roberts forward Taylor Cooper asked for a release from the university so she could transfer, but the request was denied, a source close to Cooper told The Oklahoman.

She plans to appeal the decision, the source said.

Cooper started all 31 games of her just-completed freshman season, averaging 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. ORU won the Southland Conference Tournament and lost 83-62 to Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament's first round.

The 6-foot forward ended her prolific high-school career with back-to-back state championships. As a junior, she led Bethel to the Class 3A title before moving to Shawnee, where she helped the Wolves claim the 2012 Class 5A championship. Cooper was on The Oklahoman's Super 5 team as a senior.

Cooper signed with Oral Roberts in November 2011, choosing the Golden Eagles over offers from bigger schools.
