College football awards watch list release schedule

Here is a tentative schedule (including state school nominees) of when the preseason college football awards lists will be released, as provided by the National College Football Awards Association. Some awards lists have already been announced this week as well as earlier this year:

Monday, July 7
Bednarik Award (college football’s top defensive player): Charles Tapper, Eric Striker, Frank Shannon, Oklahoma
Maxwell Award (player of the year): Trevor Knight, QB, Oklahoma

Tuesday, July 8
Mackey Award (most outstanding tight end): Blake Bell, Taylor McNamara, Oklahoma
Rimington Trophy (most outstanding center): Ty Darlington, Oklahoma

Wednesday, July 9
Lou Groza Award (most outstanding place kicker): Michael Hunnicutt, Oklahoma
Ray Guy Award (most outstanding punter): None

Thursday, July 10
Bronko Nagurski Trophy (most outstanding defensive player): Zack Sanchez, Tapper, Striker, Oklahoma
Outland Trophy (most outstanding interior lineman): Daryl Williams, Oklahoma

Friday, July 11
Jim Thorpe Award (most outstanding defensive back): Sanchez, Oklahoma

Monday
Butkus Award (most outstanding linebacker): Shannon, Striker, Oklahoma
Rotary Lombardi Award (most outstanding lineman or linebacker): Striker, Oklahoma

Tuesday
Biletnikoff Award (most outstanding receiver): None.

Wednesday
Davey O’Brien Award (most outstanding quarterback): Trevor Knight, Oklahoma; J.W. Walsh, Oklahoma State

Thursday: Doak Walker Award (most outstanding running back)
Friday: Walter Camp Award (most outstanding player)
