And, of course, first-year Southern Miss coach Todd Monken, also an Illinois native, is responsible for recruiting Lunt to OSU.
While it's easy to connect the dots between Lunt and Monken, an actual reuniting of the two may be complicated. Monken and Cowboys coach Mike Gundy, and their wives, are close enough to have vacationed together in the past.
If Lunt wanted to attend Southern Miss, those close to Monken say that it would require Gundy's “complete blessing” to make it happen.
OSU revealed Lunt's decision to transfer last week. The Cowboys starter as a true freshman at the start of the 2012 season, he threw for 1,108 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions during an injury-plagued first year.
Lunt competed with Clint Chelf and J.W. Walsh for the quarterback job in the spring.
