College football: Tennessee's Derek Dooley on the hot seat

by Berry Tramel Published: September 14, 2012

Tennessee-Florida is big again. GameDay will be in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday for what might have been college football's top rivalry of the 1990s.

Both teams are 2-0; Florida is ranked 18th, Tennessee 23rd.

But the Volunteers could fall fast from their resurgence. Third-year coach Derek Dooley has seemed to be a short-timer since he arrived; his first two Vol teams were 6-7 and 5-7.

Another losing season would make Dooley's future dicey. And it could happen, with a loss to the Gators. Tennessee still has road games at Georgia, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, plus home games against Alabama and Missouri.

A victory over Florida would do wonders for Tennessee. And Dooley's job security.
