Some seats are hot because a job is in jeopardy. Some seats are hot because victory is essential. Some seats are hot because of rare opportunity.

The latter describes Duke's David Cutcliffe.

With apologies to Art Briles, the most amazing success story in college football sits in Durham, N.C., where Cutcliffe has the Blue Devils in contention for the ACC's Coastal Division title.

If Duke wins Saturday at Wake Forest and Nov. 30 at North Carolina, the Blue Devils win the division and play Florida State in the ACC championship game.

Duke is 8-2 overall and the last four weeks has beaten Virginia 35-22, Virginia Tech 13-10, North Carolina State 38-20 and Miami 48-30.

Heady days for the basketball school with little football success the last half century.

Cutcliffe already has worked wonders, taking Duke to a bowl game last season for the first time since 1995. But winning the division is a different thing. It's great opportunity for Duke, which puts Cutcliffe on the hot seat.
