College golf roundup: OSU's Caroline Hedwall wins NCAA individual championship

He finished six shots ahead of Brett Quitiquit of Madonna (Mich.).

Julian Valenciana of OCU tied for third place with Armando Villarreal of Texas Wesleyan; they were eight shots behind the medalist.

Michael Palmer struggled through the first three rounds, but he had a team-low 70 on Friday for Oklahoma City. He finished tied for 48th place in the individual standings.

Southern Nazarene, which contended early on, finished in eighth place.

OSU MEN TRAIL BY 3
Oklahoma State trailed by three strokes after the second round of the NCAA Men’s Golf Southeast Regional in Alpharetta, Ga. The Cowboys, behind Peter Uihlein and Morgan Hoffman, trailed first-place Clemson by three shots on Crapapple Course. OSU has a 4-over-par 564 for the tournament.

Uihlein, who was tied for first place going into Friday’s play, fell into a second-place tie. He shot a 70 and was 2-under 138 for the tournament.

Uihlein is one stroke behind leader Robbie Fillmore of Brigham Young.

Hoffman is tied for fifth place overall. He had an OSU-best 69 on Friday and is three shots out of the lead.

The final round is today.

The Oklahoma City University women’s golf team begins its defense of five consecutive NAIA championships on Tuesday at the Meadowbrook Course in Rapid City, S.D. ... Cameron finished 12th in the NCAA Division II Men’s Tournament in Noblesville, Ind. Peter Svajlen led Cameron individuals. He finished in eighth place. ... Oklahoma’s only representative in the NCAA Men’s Tournament, Ben Blundell, is tied for 44th place in the West Regional in Bremerton, Wash. He is 7-over 151 for the tournament.
