Dubious decision
So Billy Donovan won't be the highest-paid college coach after all. Leaving Florida's fat contract extension on the table, Donovan bolted for the NBA.

For $5 million a year, the coach moves 90 minutes down the road, and they're giving him use of a condo so he doesn't actually have to buy a new house. Sounds like a great gig, except for the part about winning.

Donovan joins a long line of college coaches to try the NBA. It hasn't worked out for most of his predecessors. Here's a look at how some others have fared in recent years:

•Mike Montgomery, Golden State – 68-96 (2004-06).

•Leonard Hamilton, Washington – 19-63 (2000-01).

•Lon Kruger, Atlanta – 69-122 (2000-03)

•Tim Floyd, Chicago – 49-190 (1999-2001)

•Rick Pitino, Boston – 102-146 (1997-2001)

•John Calipari, New Jersey – 72-114 (1996-99)

Dubious distinction: Maybe you noticed Arkansas' achievement during the 2006-07 school year, when it became the first SEC school to reach the league's championship game in football, basketball and baseball during the same year.

The good news for Hog fans is the level of competition. Florida beat the Hogs in football and basketball, and then went on to win national championships in both sports. And Vanderbilt won the baseball title — and is the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA baseball tournament.

Oregon donor: Oregon State offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf became an organ donor Thursday, and the wife of another Beavers assistant is the beneficiary.

Langsdorf, 34, underwent surgery to remove a kidney, which was then transplanted to Laurie Cavanaugh, 48, the wife of offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh.

"When you work as closely as a coaching staff does, you develop some really deep and solid friendships,” Mike Cavanaugh said in a statement released by the school.
